Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to measure the effects of group forgiveness counselling program on the aggression and interpersonal relationships for 6th grade elementary students.
Methods: From March 2nd to May 24th of 2011, eighteen 6th grade students were participated at an elementary school in D city and were divided into an education group (9 students) and a non education group (9 students). Group forgiveness education program was provided to the education group for 8 weeks and questionnaire survey about aggression and interpersonal relationships were carried out before and after the education. The follow-up questionnaire survey was carried out four weeks later.
Results: After the application of group forgiveness education program education group showed a lower aggression score than the non education group (p£¼0.05). However inter-personal relationships scores increased in the both groups (p£¼0.05). Four weeks later the education group showed a lower aggression score and a higher interpersonal relationship score than the non education group (p£¼0.05).
Conclusion: This result shows that the group forgiveness counselling program is a very useful intervention in the 6th grade elementary school students resulting in a decreased aggression and increased interpersonal relationships. Further study will be required to develop the continuous and systematic program of the group forgiveness counselling.
